If you want to leave a lasting impression on your Instagram followers or soon-to-be-customers, read on.
Here are 6 creative campaigns to expand and grow your social networks via Instagram:
1: Display Your Product in New Ways to Generate Sales
To display your product(s) using Instagram may seem like an obvious go-to. however, there are creative approaches that draw users in even more.
One way to generate sales using your Instagram account is to create an interactive catalog and product profiles.
If you want Instagram users to browse your products and make a purchase, follow in IKEA’s footsteps. The company used the social media platform to launch a fully functioning catalog-type “website.”
To do this, IKEA took advantage of Instagram’s tagging feature, allowing users to browse through images of their products and be redirected to individual product accounts by clicking on the tag in the images.
Of course, you can adapt this campaign strategy to your own needs to tailor to your business in four simple steps.
Step 1: Set up individual email accounts for each product category that you want to feature. Use these emails to create corresponding Instagram accounts for each product category.
Step 2: Pile on the posts! Load up each category profile with plenty of product images you want to display.
Step 3: Be sure to make the individual products easily accessible. Feature a direct link for purchases in each product category account’s bio.
Step 4: Upload photos of multiple products to your main account. Don’t forget to tag the relevant product’s Instagram account—this is key.
2. Launch Instagram-Exclusive Offers, Competitions, Giveaways, Etc.
Using this creative campaign, you can build brand equity with generosity (which also goes a long way for a brand when paired with a strong social strategy).
To attract Instagram attention, and make your Instagram followers feel special, launch competitions and offers that are only available to those users, with the use of hashtags.
By creating a specific hashtag, you can encourage your Instagram followers to spread the word about the special offer on their own accounts.
Another route to go—turn the competition into a photo submission. You can even display the winning photos on your own feed.
Or, once you decide what is up for grabs for a lucky user (or few), you can simply create an Instagram post and ask people to leave a comment for a chance to win. Then, select your winner(s) and use Instagram’s Direct Message feature to contact them with the good news.
This campaign strategy allows you to make the experience all about the customer, which is bound to bring attention your way.
The incentive is up to you; what’s important is that you’re connecting with your audience on a personal level. This strengthens your relationship with existing and potential customers and gains visibility for your business or brand!
3. Strength in Storytelling: Take Viewers on a Visual Adventure with Tagged Images!
Instagram is meant to tell visual stories, and Old Spice knew exactly how to use that to their advantage.
Similar to IKEA’s Instagram catalog, Old Spice created a narrative for users to navigate and choose their own adventure via Instagram.
While the Old Spice approach at this campaign was made up of monsters, robots, pop culture references, etc., you can model this type of campaign to your own marketing and brand.
First, outline a relevant and engaging story to share with your viewers. Although creating a similar campaign to Old Spice to “choose your own adventure” is one way to go, you can also take simpler steps.
For example, post a tour of your local area. Include choices for historical sites nearby for users to access.
Whatever story you choose to tell, include intriguing and appropriate Insta images or Insta videos to ensure that your viewers move through the adventure smoothly. Also use the tagging feature to present them with at least two choices in each post.
Leading viewers to another tagged image or video post and delivering another set of navigation choices is a great way to invite participation and engagement and capture your audience’s interest!
4. Want to Engage Your Customers? Make it About Them!
One of the best ways to get customers engaged via social media is to let them know something is in it for them.
By showcasing your customer, they’re more likely to share your content, take part in your campaigns, and/or even market your product for you.
Take Tiffany & Co. and their “What Makes Love True” campaign for example.
Through the Instagram campaign, the jeweler encouraged its followers to post pics to the platform with the inclusion of the hashtag, #TrueLovePictures.
Going even further, they let users upload photos directly to their site, allowing for a stunning selection of user photos to be accessed on the website dedicated to the campaign.
5. Give Your Customers the Inside Scoop
Take your customers behind the scenes via Instagram!
The social media platform provides a direct connection between you and your customers and offers you an excellent chance to showcase a more private side to your brand.
Whether you use it to display how your products are made, or to personally introduce followers to your team that make it all happen, or maybe to simply post a few photos of the office space itself, Instagram can create an intimate connection between your brand and the platform’s users (AKA potential customers!).
Club Monaco had the right idea when the company posted behind-the-scenes snapshots at photo shoots as well as inside their New York City headquarters.
Another way to achieve a connection with customers is to share your company or brand history. This provides an interesting and educational way to fill your Instagram feed.
6. Look at the Bigger Picture
Think big—make a creative image/album layout!
The number one tip the modeling this campaign to your own marketing is to keep in mind that you still need to provide quality content that informs your audience.
To make it work, after shooting your large-scale image, carefully place each product into a space you can crop into a square easily.
Next, load your square image set to create the look of a seamless, large-scale image on your Instagram profile. Make sure each image stays in order one after the other.
Lastly, add a unique description to each individual image. Focus on creating a description that explores its value and shares some insight that will intrigue viewers.
The goal is to prompt users to visit your bio section and to visit the link that takes them to your website for the full story and product selection!
